Main Ingredients
  • 150g Tteokbokki Tteok (rice cakes for tteokbokki, either chewy or soft variety)
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1.5 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (Ganjang)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Corn Syrup (Mulyeot)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

1. Prepare the Rice Cakes: Take 150g of tteokbokki tteok. If your rice cakes are hard, soak them in water for about 10 minutes to soften them. Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and arrange the drained rice cakes in a single layer. Ensure they are not overlapping too much for even crisping.

Step 2

2. Air Fry the Rice Cakes: Drizzle 1 Tbsp of olive oil evenly over the rice cakes. This step helps achieve a crispy texture and allows the sauce to coat them beautifully. Place the basket in the air fryer and cook at 180°C (350°F) for 9 minutes. Flip the rice cakes and cook for an additional 4 minutes at 180°C (350°F). (Tip: Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become too hard.)

Step 3

3. Make the Sauce and Simmer: In a small bowl, whisk together 1.5 Tbsp ketchup, 1.5 Tbsp corn syrup, and 1 Tbsp soy sauce to create the sauce. Transfer the crispy rice cakes to a pan. Pour the prepared sauce over the rice cakes and simmer over low heat for about 3 minutes, just until the sauce is absorbed and coats the rice cakes evenly. Avoid simmering for too long, as it can make the rice cakes tough.
