Ingredients
  • 1 cup Acorn Powder (standard paper cup)
  • 6 cups Water (standard paper cup)

For Cooking the Jelly
  • 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp Salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place 1 cup of acorn powder in a bowl. Add 2 cups of cold water and mix thoroughly until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps. Using a wooden spatula or a whisk can help achieve a smoother consistency.

Step 2

In a pot over medium heat, add 4 cups of water (using the same paper cup for measurement) and bring it to a rolling boil. Using boiling water is crucial to prevent the acorn powder from clumping and to ensure it cooks evenly.

Step 3

Once the water is boiling vigorously, slowly pour the pre-mixed acorn powder and water into the pot from one side. Simultaneously, use a wooden spatula to stir continuously in a circular motion, ensuring the spatula touches the bottom of the pot. Continue this process for about 10 to 12 minutes, and you’ll notice the mixture gradually thickening into a jelly-like consistency.

Step 4

Keep stirring to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. When the jelly mixture becomes thick, add 1/2 Tbsp of salt and 2 Tbsp of perilla oil. Continue stirring for another minute to incorporate these ingredients well. Turn off the heat, cover the pot with a lid, and let it steam for 5 minutes. This resting period will enhance the jelly’s tender texture.

Step 5

Lightly grease a container or mold with perilla oil before pouring the jelly into it. Carefully pour the hot acorn jelly into the prepared container. Use a spatula to smooth out the top surface, creating an even layer. This step ensures a neat presentation when the jelly is set.

Step 6

To prevent the surface of the acorn jelly from drying out, gently pour water over it, just enough to cover the top layer. Allow it to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator until it is completely firm. Your delicious homemade acorn jelly is now ready!

Step 7

Once the jelly has set, cut it into bite-sized pieces. Serve it with a savory dipping sauce or toss it with fresh vegetables to create a delightful jelly salad. Acorn jelly is not only a delicious dish but also a healthy option, known for aiding digestion and inhibiting fat absorption, making it a great choice for a light meal or a diet-conscious treat.
