Main Ingredients- 100g beef (thinly sliced for bulgogi or ground beef)
- 1/2 onion (finely diced)
- 1 red chili pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped)
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice (approx. 200g)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Beef Marinade (Optional)- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the beef. If you are using unmarinated beef, mix it with 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper. Let it marinate for about 5 minutes. This simple marinade will significantly enhance the umami flavor of your fried rice.
Step 2
Prepare the additional ingredients for the fried rice. Feel free to use any vegetables you have in your refrigerator! Finely dice the onion and finely chop the red chili pepper after removing the seeds. Adding other vegetables like zucchini, carrots, or green onions can also make it delicious.
Step 3
The key to great fried rice is the rice! Using slightly dry, fluffy rice will prevent clumping and allow the ingredients to mix evenly, resulting in a much tastier fried rice. Leftover chilled rice works perfectly fine.
Step 4
Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. The aroma of garlic complements fried rice beautifully. If you prefer a richer aroma, you can also make scallion oil by stir-frying chopped scallions first.
Step 5
Add the marinated beef or raw beef to the pan and stir-fry. Break up any clumps of beef as it cooks to ensure even cooking.
Step 6
Continue to cook the beef over medium heat until the exterior changes color. Once the beef starts to brown slightly, add the prepared diced onion and stir-fry together. Cook until the onions become translucent.
Step 7
As the onions turn transparent and start to sizzle, add the prepared rice. Increase the heat to high and vigorously stir-fry the rice, ensuring it becomes fluffy and separated.
Step 8
Once the rice and ingredients are well combined, pour 1 Tbsp of soy sauce around the edges of the pan to add depth of flavor. Then, add a pinch of black pepper and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma. You can easily create a delicious beef fried rice with ingredients you already have at home.
Step 9
Keep stir-frying over high heat until the seasonings are evenly distributed and the rice grains are distinct. High heat is crucial for fried rice as it helps evaporate excess moisture, giving it a desirable chewy texture. Finally, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds for extra flavor.
Step 10
While the fried rice is cooking, you can also prepare a sunny-side-up egg to serve on top. A runny yolk drizzled over the hot fried rice is incredibly delicious!
Step 11
Finally, add the finely chopped red chili pepper and mix lightly. The red chili adds a beautiful color and a hint of spiciness, cutting through any richness. Your simple and delicious beef fried rice is now complete! Enjoy it while it’s warm.
