Delicious Cinnamon Rolls
Making Cinnamon Rolls with Hotteok Mix
Discover a delightful alternative to traditional hotteok using your store-bought hotteok mix! These cinnamon rolls offer a wonderfully chewy texture from the hotteok dough, perfectly complemented by a sweet cinnamon filling. They’re an easy-to-make treat that even beginners can master.
Ingredients- 1 pack Korean Sticky Hotteok Mix
- 1 pack Korean Honey Hotteok Syrup Mix
- 1 sachet Instant Yeast (approx. 7g)
- 130ml Lukewarm Water (around 105-115°F or 40-45°C)
- 40ml Cooking Oil (e.g., canola, grapeseed)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the sticky hotteok mix powder and the instant yeast. Give them a gentle stir. Then, pour in the lukewarm water and cooking oil. Mix with a spatula or your hands until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and cohesive. Divide the finished dough into two equal portions.
Step 2
Using a rolling pin, flatten each portion of dough into a thin rectangular shape, about 2-3mm thick. Be careful not to roll it too thin, as it might tear.
Step 3
Evenly sprinkle the honey hotteok syrup mix powder all over the thinly rolled dough. This creates the sweet and aromatic cinnamon filling. Once sprinkled, leaving a small border at the edge, carefully roll up the dough tightly, similar to how you would roll sushi.
Step 4
Cut the rolled dough into approximately 3-4 cm (about 1.5 inches) thick pieces. Aim for about 4 equal portions. If the knife sticks to the dough, wipe it clean between cuts.
Step 5
Arrange the cut cinnamon rolls in a baking pan or on a tray lined with parchment paper. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel, and let them rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes for a second proof (or resting period). You should see the dough puff up slightly. Once proofed, preheat your air fryer to 170°C (340°F).
Step 6
Place the cinnamon rolls into the preheated air fryer. The baking time will vary depending on the wattage of your specific air fryer. A general guideline is around 15-20 minutes at 170°C (340°F), but it’s best to check periodically to avoid burning.
Step 7
My air fryer has a slightly lower wattage, so I baked mine at 170°C (340°F) for approximately 25 minutes. If you notice a burning smell or the tops are browning too quickly, you can loosely cover them with aluminum foil.
Step 8
Your cinnamon rolls are ready when they are beautifully golden brown and cooked through! Enjoy them warm for the best chewy and sweet experience. For an extra touch, you can dust them with powdered sugar or drizzle with icing if desired.
