I remembered I had frozen hot dog buns in my freezer and decided to make some delicious New York-style hot dogs with the sausages I had on hand. They’re perfect for a special treat or a quick snack!
Essential Ingredients- 3 hot dog buns
- 3 sausages
- 5-6 fresh lettuce leaves

Let’s start with the star of the show: the sausages! Boiling them for about 5 minutes will make them perfectly plump and cooked. For an extra touch, you can score the sausages with a knife. This allows the sauces to seep into the cuts, creating even more delicious flavor pockets. I made cross-shaped cuts for a nice presentation!

Fill a pot with plenty of water and bring it to a rolling boil. Once the water is boiling, carefully add the sausages and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until they are fully cooked through. Be mindful not to overcook, as they might split.

Finely chop the pickles to add a delightful crunch. Aim for about 3 tablespoons worth, which should be enough to generously top all three hot dogs.

Wash the fresh lettuce leaves thoroughly under running water. Gently shake off excess water or pat them dry with a paper towel. Ensuring the lettuce is dry is crucial to prevent the bun from becoming soggy.

Prepare your hot dog buns by slicing them horizontally. Layer 1-2 lettuce leaves inside each bun. On one side of the lettuce, spread about 1 tablespoon of the chopped onion.
