Delicious Korean Classic: Simple Pan-Fried Potato Noodles
Easy & Delicious Potato Noodles (Gamja Bokkeum) Recipe!
Introducing a beloved Korean side dish, Gamja Bokkeum (pan-fried potato noodles)! The combination of slightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside potatoes, sweet onions, and nutty sesame oil is simply wonderful. It’s perfect as a side dish for rice or a lunchbox addition. Let’s make this favorite recipe together!
Main Ingredients- 4 small potatoes
- 1 large onion
- 1 handful of green onions
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes thoroughly, peel them, and cut them into matchsticks about 0.5 cm thick. Soaking the cut potatoes in cold water for about 10 minutes removes excess starch, preventing them from sticking together when fried and making them tastier. Drain them well before proceeding.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it into matchsticks similar in thickness to the potatoes. Chop the green onions into bite-sized pieces. Pre-chopping the onions and green onions can make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 3
Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the drained potato matchsticks and begin to stir-fry. As the potatoes cook, add 1 tablespoon of salt and continue to stir-fry until they are about halfway cooked. It’s important to stir-fry over medium heat, being careful not to burn them.
Step 4
Once the potatoes are about halfway cooked, add the sliced onions to the pan and stir-fry them together. The onions will turn translucent and add a lovely sweetness to the dish.
Step 5
When the onions are relatively softened, add the chopped green onions and stir-fry briefly. The aromatic flavor of the green onions will further enhance the overall taste of the potato stir-fry.
Step 6
When all ingredients are fully cooked, just before turning off the heat, crush the sesame seeds slightly with your fingers and sprinkle them into the pan. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Crushing the sesame seeds releases more of their aroma, and adding sesame oil at the end preserves its fresh, nutty fragrance. Mix everything together, and your delicious Gamja Bokkeum is ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
