Main Ingredients
  • 2 King oyster mushrooms
  • 1/2 Green bell pepper
  • 2 Imitation crab sticks
  • 2 Slices of pickled radish (Danmuji)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s look at the ingredients for our skewers. I’ve prepared green bell pepper for a crisp texture and fresh aroma, imitation crab sticks for chewiness, and sweet and tangy pickled radish. You can substitute green bell pepper with paprika, or use other sweet vegetables if you’re making this for children who prefer them. Feel free to customize the ingredients based on your preference.

Step 2

Now, it’s time to artfully thread the prepared ingredients onto the toothpicks. Slice the king oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick. Cut the green bell pepper, imitation crab sticks, and pickled radish into similar sizes or shapes as the mushrooms. Thread them onto the skewers, arranging them in a colorful order for visual appeal. A beautiful presentation enhances the taste!

Step 3

Next, we’ll prepare the egg batter that will coat the skewers. Crack two eggs into a bowl. Add a tiny pinch of salt to season and to help remove any eggy smell. Whisk the eggs with a fork or whisk until the yolks and whites are well combined.

Step 4

Gently coat the colorful skewers with the prepared egg batter. You can dip the entire skewer into the egg mixture and let any excess drip off, or use a spoon to carefully brush the batter over all the ingredients. Ensuring the egg batter adheres well will help the skewers maintain their shape and look beautiful when cooked.

Step 5

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Carefully place the egg-coated skewers into the hot pan. Fry them, flipping occasionally, until they are golden brown on both sides. Pay attention to the heat to prevent the egg from burning, cooking each side for about 2-3 minutes until fully done. Golden-brown skewers are not only visually appealing but also tastier.
