Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This recipe yields 2 servings. Prepare half an onion, half a carrot, spam, and one-third of a zucchini. The beauty of omurice fried rice is that you can use any leftover vegetables you have in your fridge, so feel free to customize!
Step 2
Prepare half a tablespoon of minced garlic and a pinch of black pepper. If you’re making this for children, you can omit these two ingredients. Since this was for my husband’s lunchbox, I added them to cut through the richness. Now, heat some oil in a pan and sauté the prepared vegetables first. It’s best to stir-fry them over high heat to maintain their crispness.
Step 3
Once the onions become translucent, the vegetables are almost cooked. At this point, add 1-2 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and stir-fry them together. It’s important to cook until the seasonings are well combined with the vegetables.
Step 4
Stir-fry everything with enthusiasm until well combined! This is a crucial step that determines the flavor of your fried rice, so put your heart into it.
Step 5
Add the rice to the well-stirred vegetable mixture. Using rice that’s already fluffy or day-old cold rice will prevent the fried rice from clumping and result in a delicious dish.
Step 6
Stir-fry again with enthusiasm until the rice and vegetables are thoroughly mixed. The key is to coat each grain of rice with the delicious seasoning.
Step 7
Your delicious fried rice is ready! Now it’s time to create the signature egg omelet blanket. If your frying pan isn’t too large, using about 3 eggs should be sufficient for the omelet.
Step 8
Choosing the right pan is also important when making the egg omelet. Unlike my mistake, using a pan with a wide, flat bottom is much easier for shaping compared to a very deep pan. (laughs)
Step 9
Making a beautiful egg omelet is simple. Thinly spread the egg mixture in the pan, then scoop the fried rice to one side and fold the egg over it. Adjusting the amount of rice is key; too much rice might prevent the egg from covering it properly. Once you remember this technique, it’s a piece of cake!
Step 10
Unfortunately, I failed to make a perfect egg omelet shape this time. (laughs) I guess my cooking skills are still amateur. You’ll understand why if you watch the original video! (laughs)
Step 11
While it might not have the perfect, beautiful shape like others, the taste is absolutely fantastic! I guarantee this amazing flavor!
