Main Ingredients- 3 sheets of Korean fish cakes (Eomuk)
- A small amount of carrot (for color)
- 1 medium onion
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp ginger syrup (or a pinch of minced ginger)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (adds sweetness and shine)
- 1/2 Tbsp + 1 tsp sesame oil (for finishing aroma)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp ginger syrup (or a pinch of minced ginger)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (adds sweetness and shine)
- 1/2 Tbsp + 1 tsp sesame oil (for finishing aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes, carrot, and onion. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 1 cm thick. Thinly slice the carrot and the onion into similar lengths.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil. Begin by stir-frying the sliced onions. Cook the onions until they become translucent, which will bring out their natural sweetness and enhance the flavor.
Step 3
Once the onions soften, add the julienned carrots and continue stir-frying. Cook the carrots until they are tender-crisp; you want them cooked but still with a slight bite. Overcooking can make them mushy.
Step 4
When the carrots are partially cooked, add the sliced fish cakes to the pan and stir-fry. Tip: For a cleaner taste and texture, you can briefly blanch the fish cakes in boiling water or rinse them under hot water to remove any excess oil and impurities before stir-frying.
Step 5
Add all the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp ginger syrup, and 1 Tbsp plum extract. Stir everything together well to coat the fish cakes and vegetables evenly. Cook over medium-low heat to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 6
Finally, drizzle in the remaining 1 tsp of sesame oil and give it a final quick toss to combine. This adds a wonderful nutty aroma, completing your delicious stir-fried fish cakes! They are ready to be served immediately, or you can let them cool slightly before storing them in an airtight container for a tasty side dish the next day.
