Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your vegetables for the stir-fry. Wash them thoroughly and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion thickly or cut it into quarters for larger pieces. Slice the carrot thinly into rounds or half-moons. For the garlic, thinly slice it or gently smash it with the side of your knife to release more flavor. Slice the green onion diagonally.
Step 2
Next, cut the sundae into manageable pieces. Avoid cutting them too small, as they might break apart during cooking; pieces about 1.5-2cm thick are ideal for a good texture. If your sundae isn’t pre-cooked, you can briefly blanch it in boiling water for 5-7 minutes for a softer texture.
Step 3
Now, let’s begin the stir-frying process. Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté slowly until it becomes fragrant and lightly golden. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant and slightly browned, add the prepared vegetables (onion, carrot) and the sundae to the pan. Stir-fry everything together. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and a pinch of black pepper at this stage. Cooking over high heat for a short time will help maintain the crispness of the vegetables and the chewiness of the sundae.
Step 5
When the ingredients are mostly cooked and the vegetables have softened slightly, pour 1 tablespoon of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. This allows the soy sauce to caramelize slightly, adding a deeper flavor. Stir well to coat all the ingredients evenly with the sauce.
Step 6
Finally, add 1/3 cup of water to the pan and cover with a lid. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly. This will ensure the sundae and vegetables are well-seasoned and moist, but not soupy. Once the sauce has reduced to your liking, turn off the heat. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for a glossy finish and nutty aroma, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Enjoy your delicious Sundae Stir-Fry!
