Weekend Delicacy! The Golden Recipe for Delicious Tteokbokki, Made in a Snap
Today, I’m sharing a golden recipe for making delicious tteokbokki at home in a snap! Since it’s the weekend, it’s time for something tasty! Enjoy!
Main Ingredients- 1 pack Tteokbokki rice cakes (approx. 300g)
- 5 sheets rectangular fish cakes
- 1 medium onion
- 1/2 stalk green onion (about 2 hand spans)
- 8 perilla leaves
- 400ml water
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all your tteokbokki ingredients. The rice cakes are fresh from the rice cake shop, so they don’t need soaking. If you’re using refrigerated or frozen rice cakes, soak them in cold water for about 10-20 minutes until softened before cooking.
Step 2
The perilla leaves will be used as a garnish. Thinly slice them into shreds. Cutting them thinly, similar to how you’d prepare scallions for a salad, will enhance the texture.
Step 3
Now, in a pot for making the tteokbokki sauce, add 400ml of water and bring it to a boil. For a deeper flavor, you can also use anchovy-kelp broth or a little store-bought soup stock.
Step 4
Once the water starts boiling, add all the seasoning ingredients except for the gochugaru (gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, corn syrup) and mix well. Let it boil vigorously for another moment until the sauce bubbles up.
Step 5
Add the sliced onion, fish cakes, and green onions to the sauce and cook them together. (Do not add the perilla leaves at this stage, as they are for garnish later.)
Step 6
Add the tteokbokki rice cakes and hard-boiled eggs. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together. Cook until the rice cakes are soft and chewy.
Step 7
As the tteokbokki simmers and the sauce thickens, add the gochugaru. Adding gochugaru will enhance the color and the spicy flavor of the tteokbokki.
Step 8
Stir everything together so the ingredients are well coated with the sauce, and let it simmer. This will result in delicious tteokbokki. Adjust the sauce consistency to your preference by simmering longer if you like it thicker.
Step 9
Finally, generously sprinkle the thinly sliced perilla leaves over the finished tteokbokki for garnish. Voila! Your tteokbokki is ready with a mouth-watering appearance. Enjoying it with kimbap made it even more delicious! Enjoy your meal!
