After enjoying a spicy and sweet stir-fried octopus dish, I decided to make a simple one-bowl meal: octopus fried rice. On a hot day, cooking over a hot stove can be quite draining, but using convenience food allows for a quick yet delicious meal. The Peacock Octopus Fried Rice, in particular, transformed into a restaurant-quality dish by first infusing oil with garlic and then topping it with a fried egg and grilled sausages. Here’s how to make a visually appealing and incredibly tasty octopus fried rice that’s both convenient and satisfying.
Ingredients- Peacock Octopus Fried Rice (2 servings)
- Frozen raw shrimp (2 pcs)
- Fried egg (2 pcs)
- Cheongyang chili sausage (2 pcs)
- 1 Tbsp minced green onion
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gather your ingredients: Peacock Octopus Fried Rice for 2 servings. One serving might feel a bit small. You’ll also need the included sesame oil and the Mujyodong Yujeong Octopus Stir-fry Sauce.
Step 2
Even though we’re using a retort pouch product, we still want to bring out the best flavor! Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 Tbsp of minced green onion and sauté until fragrant and slightly golden to create a flavorful green onion oil. This step significantly enhances the aroma and taste.
Step 3
Pour the contents of the Peacock Octopus Fried Rice into the pan with the fragrant green onion oil. Stir well to break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry until it’s fluffy and slightly toasted.
Step 4
To make it a bit more substantial, I added 2 frozen raw shrimp. As I was stir-frying, I felt that 2 servings might still be a bit insufficient. After some thought, I decided to add the remaining single-serving portion as well. This resulted in a more satisfying amount. It seems that using the 2-serving pack is better for portion control than trying to make a single serving.
Step 5
Now, add the Mujyodong Yujeong Octopus Sauce and continue to stir-fry. At this point, I am still cooking the portion equivalent to one serving.
Step 6
Stir-fry the sauce and rice together, almost as if you’re mixing it. And that’s it! This is how convenient it is to use a retort product. The ease of preparation is a major advantage of such convenience foods.
Step 7
Feeling that the octopus fried rice alone might be a bit lacking, I prepared two fried eggs separately. I also scored two Cheongyang chili sausages and pan-fried them until golden brown. Adding these side dishes makes the meal much more filling and impressive.
Step 8
This is the final portion of the 2-serving octopus fried rice. I packed it firmly into a rice bowl and then inverted it onto a serving plate, which makes for a lovely presentation.
Step 9
Finally, top the fried rice with the appetizing fried egg and the grilled sausages. Even though it’s made from a convenience product, with the addition of carefully prepared toppings, the Peacock Octopus Fried Rice looks and tastes like a special restaurant dish. Enjoy this satisfying meal that excels in flavor, appearance, and convenience.
