Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, squeeze out the excess liquid from half a head of kimchi and finely chop it. If you want to slightly adjust the kimchi’s flavor, you can add a little sugar.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine the chopped kimchi with 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds. Gently mix them together until well combined and the seasoning is evenly distributed. Adjust the sugar and sesame oil to your taste.
Step 3
Crack 3 eggs into a bowl and whisk them well. Heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the eggs into sunny-side-up or over-easy style, as preferred. You can cook them to your preferred doneness.
Step 4
Pan-fry the ham slices until golden brown on both sides, then cut them into bite-sized pieces. Lightly frying the ham will release some of its flavorful fat.
Step 5
Drain the oil from the canned tuna. Place the tuna in a bowl and mix with 3 Tbsp mayonnaise, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper to create the tuna mayo filling.
Step 6
Take about 3 servings of warm cooked rice. Add 1 pinch of salt, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, a little toasted sesame seeds, and a little seaweed flakes. Gently mix with a spatula, being careful not to mash the rice grains, to season the rice evenly.
Step 7
Line a soup bowl or rice bowl generously with plastic wrap. Place about one ladleful of the seasoned rice onto the plastic wrap and spread it thinly.
Step 8
Next, spoon about 1 Tbsp of the tuna mayo filling onto the rice. Then, add about 1 Tbsp of the seasoned kimchi on top of the tuna mayo.
Step 9
Place the fried egg on top of the kimchi. This will be one of the layers before closing the burger.
Step 10
Cover the filling with another portion of the seasoned rice to completely encase the ingredients. The order of layering the ingredients can be adjusted to your preference, but ensure the rice completely seals everything inside. (Example: Rice → Tuna Mayo → Kimchi → Ham → Egg → Rice)
Step 11
Use the plastic wrap to shape the rice burger into a compact round form. Wrap the plastic tightly to secure the shape. For a firmer shape, you can chill the wrapped burger in the refrigerator for a short while.
Step 12
Finally, wrap the formed rice burger with aluminum foil or parchment paper. This will keep it tidy and prevent it from falling apart. Your delicious rice burger is now ready to be enjoyed as a lunchbox meal or a quick snack!
