Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the Spam into 5-6 strips per slice, making them easy to eat. Pan-fry them until golden brown. Draining the excess oil and letting them cool slightly will enhance their flavor.
Step 2
Make a thin omelet (egg crepe) by whisking and frying an egg. After frying, let it cool completely. This ensures the kimbap folds neatly without tearing.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the warm cooked rice with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 2 tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds, and a pinch of salt. Gently mix to season the rice without mashing the grains. Let it cool slightly before proceeding.
Step 4
Place a sheet of seaweed (nori) flat on your work surface. Carefully cut the sheet exactly in half, along the middle line. This makes folding the kimbap much easier.
Step 5
On one side of the cut seaweed sheet, spread a thin, even layer of the seasoned rice. On the remaining three sides (where there is no rice), arrange your chosen filling: either the tuna mayo mixture or the kimchi and Spam. Be careful not to overfill, as this can make folding difficult. For the tuna filling, arrange the perilla leaves, Spam, pickled radish, mayonnaise, and egg crepe.
Step 6
Begin by folding the side with rice over the filling, enclosing it. Then, fold the other two sides in sequence to create a neat square shape. Wrap the folded kimbap tightly in plastic wrap to help it hold its shape. Once secured, cut it into 2-3 bite-sized pieces. Your adorable folded kimbap is now ready to enjoy!
