Easy Soy Sauce Braised Fish Cakes
Simple and Delicious Soy Sauce Fish Cake Stir-Fry
Tired of spicy fish cake stir-fries? This time, try making a sweet and savory soy sauce version that the whole family will enjoy! Using store-bought soy sauce for seasoned dishes (mat-ganjang) and teriyaki sauce creates a surprisingly deep and delicious flavor. It’s made with simple ingredients, perfect as a side dish for kids or a reliable staple for your meal prep.
Main Ingredients- 7 sheets of fish cake (eomuk)
- 1 pack of King Oyster Mushrooms (or enoki mushrooms)
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
Seasoning Ingredients- 3 Tbsp seasoned soy sauce (mat-ganjang)
- 1 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp cooking syrup (or corn syrup/starch syrup)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp seasoned soy sauce (mat-ganjang)
- 1 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp cooking syrup (or corn syrup/starch syrup)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the necessary ingredients for the dish. (Tip: If you don’t have seasoned soy sauce, you can substitute it with 2 Tbsp of regular soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of sugar!)
Step 2
Wash the mushrooms thoroughly, rinse them under running water, and pat them dry. Then, tear them into bite-sized pieces. Tearing them too thinly might make them mushy when cooked, so aim for a moderate thickness.
Step 3
Briefly blanch the fish cakes in hot water to remove excess oil. Then, cut them into strips about 2-3 cm wide. Cutting them too thinly might cause them to break apart during stir-frying, so be careful.
Step 4
Wash the green onion and separate the white and green parts. Slice the white part diagonally about 0.5 cm thick. The white part will add aroma, and the green part will add color at the end.
Step 5
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared fish cakes and mushrooms and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Next, add the seasoned soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and cooking syrup. Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the ingredients to absorb the flavors. Finally, add the minced garlic and the white part of the green onion, and stir-fry quickly over high heat to coat everything and release their fragrance.
Step 6
Turn off the heat. Using the residual heat in the pan, stir in the sesame oil and sesame seeds. It’s best to add sesame oil after turning off the heat to preserve its aroma.
Step 7
Gently mix everything to ensure the sauce is evenly distributed. Transfer the perfectly cooked soy sauce fish cake stir-fry to a serving dish. It’s ready to be enjoyed!
Step 8
This soy sauce fish cake stir-fry is not spicy, so children will absolutely love it! While spicy versions are delicious, occasionally making this sweet and savory dish can capture everyone’s taste buds. They’ll all be asking for more! ^^
