Main Ingredients- 1 bunch fresh spinach
- 1/2 white part of leek
- 1 Tbsp coarse salt (for blanching spinach)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp savory tuna extract
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp savory tuna extract
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Fill a deep pot with plenty of water and bring it to a rolling boil with 1 Tbsp of coarse salt. Once boiling, add the thoroughly washed spinach and blanch for just 40-50 seconds. This quick blanching helps retain the spinach’s crisp texture and vibrant green color. Immediately transfer the blanched spinach to ice-cold water to cool.
Step 2
After cooling, it’s crucial to squeeze out as much water as possible from the spinach. This ensures the seasoning coats the leaves evenly without becoming watery. Once drained, gently tear the spinach into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Place the prepared spinach in a bowl. Add 1 Tbsp of tuna extract, which will add a deep, savory flavor. This tuna extract offers a unique, mellow taste different from anchovy sauce or soy sauce.
Step 4
Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic for a fragrant kick. Garlic helps to remove any earthiness from the spinach and enhances its overall flavor profile.
Step 5
Finally, add 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame oil for nutty richness and 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds. Thinly slice the white part of the leek and add it to the mix; its crispness and subtle sweetness will further elevate the dish. Now, gently toss all the ingredients together with your hands until well combined.
Step 6
Voila! Your appetite-whetting, refreshing spinach salad is ready. It’s a fantastic side dish that will make you want to finish your bowl of rice in no time. You can whip this up easily without complicated steps, making it perfect for busy mornings or dinners. Even if you’re trying this for the first time, you’ll surely be satisfied!
