These bite-sized tuna patties are packed with canned tuna and colorful vegetables. They make a fantastic side dish for rice or a great addition to lunchboxes. Even picky eaters who dislike vegetables will enjoy them! This recipe is simple and yields delicious homemade goodness.
Ingredients- 3 cans of tuna (small size, drained of oil or water)
- 1/4 onion
- 2 green bell peppers
- 1/2 red bell pepper
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp starch (potato or cornstarch)
- A pinch of sea salt
- A pinch of black pepper
- Cooking oil, for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly drain the oil or water from the canned tuna using a sieve. It’s important to press out as much liquid as possible, as excess moisture can make the mixture too wet.
Step 2
Wash the bell peppers, remove the seeds, and finely dice the onion, green bell peppers, and red bell pepper. Finely dicing the vegetables ensures that even children will eat them without fuss and that they incorporate well into the tuna mixture.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, finely diced vegetables, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of flour, and 1 tablespoon of starch. Add a pinch of sea salt and a pinch of black pepper for seasoning. Gently mix everything together with your hands until it forms a cohesive dough. Kneading it sufficiently until it becomes slightly sticky will help the patties hold their shape.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Scoop the mixture with a spoon and form it into small, flattened patty shapes (about bite-sized). Pan-fry them on medium-low heat until golden brown on both sides. Cook gently to ensure they are cooked through. Adjust the heat to prevent burning and achieve perfectly cooked, delicious tuna patties!
