Pizza Base & Topping Ingredients

  • 1 Ciabatta bread
  • 140g peeled potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1/2 Cheongyang chili pepper
  • 16 slices thinly sliced salami
  • 80g mozzarella cheese
  • 3 Black olives

Mashed Potato Seasoning

  • 10g butter
  • Pinch of nutmeg powder
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp whole grain mustard

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Start by peeling the potatoes and cutting them into manageable pieces. Place them in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are very tender and easily pierced with a fork. Drain the cooked potatoes thoroughly. While they are still warm, use a fork or a potato masher to mash them until smooth. Add 10g of butter to the mashed potatoes and mix until well combined and creamy.

Step 1

Step 2

Season the mashed potatoes with a pinch of black pepper and nutmeg powder for added flavor. Remember, nutmeg has a strong aroma, so use it sparingly to your preference. Since salami is quite salty, there’s no need to add extra salt. Gradually add the 2 Tbsp of milk, stirring until you achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency that isn’t too runny. Finally, finely chop half a Cheongyang chili pepper and mix it into the potatoes for a subtle kick of heat. Ensure everything is evenly distributed.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare the salami by slicing it as thinly as possible. Thinly sliced salami lays better on the pizza and becomes wonderfully crisp when baked. If you are using pre-sliced, thin salami, you can use it directly from the package.

Step 3

Step 4

Slice the ciabatta bread in half horizontally. Spread the prepared mashed potato mixture evenly over the cut surface of each ciabatta half, ensuring good coverage. Next, arrange the thinly sliced salami slices attractively over the mashed potatoes. Drizzle a little whole grain mustard over the salami for an extra layer of tangy flavor. You can substitute with regular mustard if preferred.

Step 4

Step 5

Generously sprinkle 80g of mozzarella cheese over the salami-topped ciabatta. Don’t be shy with the cheese – more cheese makes it even more delicious! Decorate the pizza by placing the thinly sliced black olives, cut into rings, on top of the cheese. Place the assembled pizzas on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown, and the ciabatta crust is nicely toasted. Enjoy your homemade Salami Mashed Potato Pizza!
