- 1 king oyster mushroom
- 5-6 cherry tomatoes
- 5-6 cloves garlic (sliced or whole)
Seasoning & Cooking- Pinch of coarse salt (for steak)
- Pinch of fresh black pepper (for steak)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp butter (or butter oil)
- Pinch of coarse salt (for steak)
- Pinch of fresh black pepper (for steak)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp butter (or butter oil)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s prepare our star ingredient: fresh Korean beef ribeye. Gently pat the ribeye steak with paper towels to remove any surface moisture. If the meat is very fresh, there won’t be much liquid.
Step 2
Time to season the ribeye. Generously sprinkle coarse salt and fresh black pepper over the steak, then rub in 1 tablespoon of olive oil to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. For an extra aromatic touch, you can add herbs like rosemary or thyme while it marinates. (Herbs are omitted in this recipe.)
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter (or butter oil). Lightly sear the prepared vegetables – onion, king oyster mushroom, cherry tomatoes, and garlic – on both sides until they gain a nice color. These vegetables will release their natural sweetness, making them a wonderful accompaniment to the steak.
Step 4
Lightly season the searing vegetables with salt and pepper as they cook. These sautéed vegetables add depth of flavor and visual appeal to the dish.
Step 5
Now, let’s use the same pan to cook the steak. Make sure the pan is very hot over high heat before adding the meat. A searing hot pan is crucial for locking in the juices, ensuring a moist and flavorful steak. You’ll hear that satisfying ‘sizzle’ as the aroma fills your kitchen!
Step 6
Once one side is sufficiently cooked and has developed a beautiful golden-brown crust, carefully flip the steak. Pressing down gently on the surface while searing (sometimes called ‘creating a crust’) can enhance the texture and flavor. Cook both sides to your desired level of doneness.
Step 7
Let’s whip up a quick sauce to complement the steak. In the same pan, add the sliced onions to the remaining drippings and sauté in a bit more butter until translucent. Stir in store-bought steak sauce, apple juice, and a touch of plum extract. Simmer over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens slightly to create a delicious homemade steak sauce. Serve it generously over the steak along with the sautéed vegetables for a complete and satisfying meal!
