Now you can recreate that deliciousness right at home with Baek Jong-won’s simple and foolproof recipe! This ‘bomb’ steamed egg is incredibly soft, fluffy, and utterly satisfying.
Main Ingredients- 6 fresh eggs
- 1 stalk of green onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup water (using a paper cup for measurement)
Seasoning- 7 pinches of salt
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds
- A pinch of black pepper
- 7 pinches of salt
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, crack 6 fresh eggs into a clean bowl. Add 7 pinches of salt, 1/3 Tbsp sugar, a pinch of black pepper, and 1/2 cup of water (measured with a paper cup). Whisk everything together gently with a whisk until the egg mixture is smooth and free of any lumps. For an even smoother texture, consider straining the mixture through a sieve.
Step 2
Next, prepare a Korean earthenware pot (ttukbaegi) for steaming. Pour the egg mixture into the ttukbaegi, filling it only up to about 80% of its capacity. Be careful not to overfill, as the egg will expand as it cooks and might overflow.
Step 3
Now, pay attention to the heat control. Place the ttukbaegi over high heat initially to bring the egg mixture to a boil. Once you see the egg mixture beginning to solidify and form soft curds, reduce the heat to medium. Stir the mixture gently with a spoon or spatula to prevent it from sticking to the bottom or burning, ensuring an even cook.
Step 4
When the steamed egg is about 90% cooked and has risen significantly, place a small lid or bowl over the ttukbaegi. This helps to trap heat and steam, encouraging the egg to puff up even more. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let it steam for about 2-3 minutes to set. Turn off the heat. Finally, garnish the puffy top with the finely chopped green onions, 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds. Your ‘bomb’ steamed egg is ready!
Step 5
Voila! You’ve successfully made a restaurant-quality ‘bomb’ steamed egg, just like Baek Jong-won’s recipe. This fluffy and tender dish is perfect served over a bowl of hot rice, making for an incredibly satisfying meal. It’s a crowd-pleaser that everyone will love!
