  • 150g fresh mung bean sprouts
  • 1.5 fresh shiitake mushrooms
  • A little carrot, julienned

Flavorful Seasoning Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (regular)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (soup grade)
  • 1 Tbsp plum extract
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • A little minced garlic (to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A little toasted sesame seeds
  • A little green onion, finely chopped (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse 2 cups of rice thoroughly in the inner pot of your rice cooker. Then, add slightly less water than usual, about 1.8 cups (a little less than 2 cups). This is because the mung bean sprouts, mushrooms, and carrots will release their own moisture, and adjusting the water level is key to achieving the perfect texture.

Step 1

Step 2

To keep the mung bean sprouts crisp, soak them in cold water for about 5 minutes. Afterwards, rinse them gently under running water 3-4 times and shake off any excess water. This step ensures they remain delightfully crunchy.

Step 2

Step 3

Gently wipe the surface of 1.5 fresh shiitake mushrooms with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any dirt. Remove the tough stems and thinly slice the mushroom caps. Thinly julienne the carrot.

Step 3

Step 4

Close the lid of your CUCKOO Twin Pressure rice cooker and turn the ‘Lid Lock Handle’ to the ‘No-Pressure’ setting until securely locked. The no-pressure function is excellent for preserving the natural texture of ingredients.

Step 4

Step 5

Select the ‘Namul Rice’ (vegetable rice) setting on your rice cooker and press the ‘No-Pressure Cook’ button to begin. The total cooking time is approximately 36 minutes. While it cooks, you can use this time efficiently to prepare the delicious seasoning sauce.

Step 5

Step 6

About 6-7 minutes after cooking starts, wait for the voice prompt ‘Please open the lid’. Once you hear this, press the ‘Open Cooking’ button to open the rice cooker lid. This step helps to evenly distribute heat and enhance the flavors of the ingredients.

Step 6

Step 7

When you open the lid, you’ll notice the water has reduced and the rice is starting to cook. It’s not fully cooked yet at this stage.

Step 7

Step 8

Arrange the julienned carrots and sliced shiitake mushrooms attractively on top of the rice. This adds color and boosts the nutritional value.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, add the prepared mung bean sprouts evenly over the rice. Adding them at this stage, rather than at the beginning, ensures they retain their wonderful crispness for much longer. When you close the lid again, listen for the prompt ‘Please close the lid within 3 minutes’. It’s crucial to close it within this time to prevent the cooking cycle from canceling.

Step 9

Step 10

Once the lid is closed, the rice cooker will automatically continue and complete the rest of the cooking process. Now, all you have to do is wait for your delicious Kongnamulbap to be ready.

Step 10

Step 11

While the rice is cooking, let’s make the seasoning sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp soup soy sauce, 1 Tbsp plum extract, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, a little minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and a little toasted sesame seeds. Mix everything well. You can also add finely chopped green onions if you like.

Step 11

Step 12

Mix all the seasoning sauce ingredients together thoroughly. If you’re adding green onions, mix them in at this point. Aim for a slightly thick consistency so it mixes well with the rice when serving.

Step 12

Step 13

When the ‘Keep Warm’ indicator lights up or you hear the completion notification, your Kongnamulbap is ready! Now it’s time to get ready to mix and enjoy this delicious dish.

Step 13

Step 14

Open the rice cooker lid and gently fluff the rice and vegetables with a spatula. Be careful not to mash the rice grains; mix them softly.

Step 14

Step 15

After mixing, you’ll see that the mung bean sprouts are plump and intact, not mushy. Thanks to the no-pressure function and open cooking, the fresh texture of the sprouts is perfectly preserved.

Step 15

Step 16

Your delicious Kongnamulbap is complete! Serve it hot with the prepared seasoning sauce mixed in for a healthy and satisfying meal. Enjoy your cooking!
