Main Ingredients- 400g gondre (Korean thistle)
- 2 cups rice
- 2 Tbsp soup soy sauce (guk-ganjang)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Soy sauce (for seasoning sauce)
- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, for seasoning sauce)
- Sugar (for seasoning sauce)
- Chopped green onion (for seasoning sauce)
- Minced garlic (for seasoning sauce)
- Sesame oil (for seasoning sauce)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the 400g of gondre thoroughly 2-3 times. After washing, drain the water completely using a sieve.
Step 2
In a deep pan, generously drizzle 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. The nutty aroma of sesame oil will enhance the flavor of the gondre rice.
Step 3
Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic to the pan with the sesame oil. Sauté briefly until fragrant, allowing the garlic aroma to develop.
Step 4
Add the washed and drained gondre to the pan, along with 2 Tbsp of soup soy sauce (guk-ganjang). Guk-ganjang will season the gondre and add a deeper flavor.
Step 5
Heat the pan over low heat and stir-fry the gondre with the sesame oil and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until the gondre wilts and becomes tender. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 6
Leave the stir-fried gondre in the pan. Rinse 2 cups of rice and soak it for about 30 minutes. Soaking the rice will make it fluffier and tastier.
Step 7
Transfer the soaked rice (drained) into the inner pot of your rice cooker.
Step 8
Evenly spread the previously stir-fried gondre over the soaked rice. It’s important to arrange the gondre nicely on top of the rice.
Step 9
Add water as you normally would to cook rice, then press the ‘Cook’ button on your rice cooker. That’s it for making gondre rice! The fragrant aroma of gondre will infuse the rice, making it even more delicious.
Step 10
Once the rice is cooked, prepare a simple seasoning sauce while the rice is cooking. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar, chopped green onion, minced garlic, sesame oil, and toasted sesame seeds. This will create a delicious seasoning sauce for your gondre rice. Drizzle this sauce over your freshly cooked gondre rice and mix – it’s incredibly tasty!
