It’s a wonderful side dish for when you lack appetite or pairs perfectly with grilled meats. With simple seasonings, anyone can easily follow along.
Key Ingredients- 5 large lettuce leaves
- 1/2 medium onion
Flavorful Dressing (measured with a tablespoon)- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
If your lettuce is slightly wilted, soak it in cold water for about 5 minutes to revive its crispness. Drain the water thoroughly and wash the leaves clean. This step will make your salad much crunchier and tastier.
Step 2
Thinly slice half of the onion into julienne strips. The onion’s sweetness and crunchy texture will make your lettuce salad even more satisfying and delicious.
Step 3
Once the lettuce is drained, trim off any wilted parts at the base. Cut the leaves into bite-sized pieces for easy eating. This also helps the dressing to be absorbed better, leading to a more flavorful salad.
Step 4
In a large bowl, combine the prepared lettuce and sliced onion. Add 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. After adding the dressing ingredients, gently toss everything together to avoid crushing the vegetables.
Step 5
Mix everything gently until the dressing is evenly distributed on the vegetables. Taste the salad and if it needs more saltiness, add a little more soy sauce. If you prefer a tangier flavor, add a touch more vinegar. Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your liking.
Step 6
Finally, generously sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. The nutty aroma of the sesame seeds will elevate the flavor of your salad. Once everything is mixed, your delicious lettuce salad is ready to be enjoyed immediately!
