Easy Homemade Tomato Sandwich Recipe | The Perfect Blend of Toasted Bread and Fresh Vegetables
Here’s a simple and delicious tomato sandwich recipe using seasonal tomatoes that anyone can make at home. Feel free to substitute ingredients based on what you have in your refrigerator to create your own unique sandwich. The combination of toast, fresh vegetables, and a soft egg makes for a wonderful meal or snack.
Main Ingredients- 1 Tomato (sliced about 0.8cm thick)
- 3 Onions (thinly sliced)
- 3 Lettuce leaves (cut to the size of the bread)
- 1 Egg
- 2 Slices of bread
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare a fresh tomato and slice it evenly about 0.8cm thick. Depending on the size of your tomato, you can use one or two slices. Make sure they are neither too thick nor too thin.
Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk one egg with 1/3 tsp of salt. If you like, you can add a little corn to the egg mixture for an extra burst of flavor.
Step 3
Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Cut them to the size of your bread slices. If you don’t have lettuce, thinly shredded cabbage is a good alternative.
Step 4
Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a pan over medium heat. Toast two slices of bread on both sides until golden brown and slightly crispy. This will add a nice texture to your sandwich.
Step 5
Lightly grease a pan with cooking oil. Pour in the beaten egg mixture. As the egg begins to cook, fold it like an omelet to fit the shape of your bread slices, cooking it evenly on both sides.
Step 6
Spread a thin layer of jam on one side of a toasted bread slice. Be careful not to use too much jam, as it can overpower the other flavors. You can use your favorite jam, such as plum or apple. If you prefer not to use jam, you can skip this step and use mayonnaise instead.
Step 7
On top of the jam-spread bread, layer your ingredients. Start with three lettuce leaves cut to size, followed by a few slices of onion. Drizzle generously with ketchup and mustard sauce, using a 1:1 ratio. If you skipped the jam, be sure to add plenty of sauce.
Step 8
Next, place the cooked egg on top of the vegetables. Arrange the sliced tomatoes (one or two, depending on size) over the egg. Tip: For best results, layer your sandwich as Egg > Tomato > Lettuce.
Step 9
Add another drizzle of mustard sauce and ketchup over the tomatoes, according to your taste.
Step 10
Place the other slice of toasted bread on top to complete the sandwich. Wrap it tightly with plastic wrap to keep everything in place, then slice it diagonally for a neat presentation. Your delicious tomato sandwich is ready to enjoy!
