Fusion Stew and a Festive Birthday Feast for Special Occasions
Last Year’s 12th Birthday Celebration for My Son!
August 25th is my son’s birthday! Today, I’m sharing the birthday spread I lovingly prepared for him last year. If you’re wondering what to cook for a special day, I hope this glimpse into our family’s birthday table can offer some inspiration. I’ll be detailing each of the fusion dishes we prepared for my son’s birthday, so please feel free to leave any questions in the comments! ^^
Key Ingredients- Pork neck (pork shoulder cut)
- Baguette bread
- Fresh shrimp
- Flavorful bacon
- Crisp asparagus
- Sweet potatoes
- Cute mini cabbages
- Tender beef bulgogi
- Savory mozzarella cheese
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This is the special pork neck stew I made for my son’s birthday. Dipping the crusty baguette into the stew is absolutely delicious!
Step 2
Using the leftover pork neck from the fridge, I made a mouthwatering steak. Alongside this, I prepared butter-roasted mini cabbages and sweet potatoes, creating two delightful plates.
Step 3
This recipe, which kids absolutely adore, involves topping baguette slices with generous amounts of beef bulgogi and a heap of mozzarella cheese before baking. I posted the detailed recipe separately not too long ago, so please refer to it. It’s one of the top homemade dishes my children always request for their birthday.
Step 4
Originally, I had planned to make sushi, but my son insisted, ‘This is more than enough!’ So, I decided not to prepare separate rice. Instead, I lightly seasoned freshly cooked rice with sesame oil, salt, and sesame seeds before serving it. Haha!
Step 5
I wrapped fresh shrimp and crisp asparagus in bacon and pan-fried them in olive oil until golden brown. They are wonderful when dipped in sweet chili sauce.
Step 6
Since the main dishes were fusion style and didn’t require many side dishes, I prepared kimchi and refreshing pickled cucumbers to complement the meal perfectly.
Step 7
For my husband and me, I made refreshing homemade lattes by brewing fresh espresso, mixing in some syrup, and then adding ice and milk. I also prepared a vibrant green grape juice that the kids love.
Step 8
I used the fresh green tangerines I had ordered for making tangerine zest preserves to create a delightful tangerine tart. And, of course, I baked my son’s favorite creamy cheesecake to add a sweet touch to the celebration.
Step 9
A salad is always a must-have on our birthday table. I recall making it with crispy fried lotus root last year for a special twist.
Step 10
I always try to create a fusion menu for my children’s birthday meals. Because it’s a special day, I aim for dishes that are a little more unique and different from everyday cooking.
Step 11
The kids truly enjoy these fusion dishes. When they were younger, we used to invite friends over, but now that they’re older, I tend to focus on the dishes they personally want to eat with the family.
Step 12
It brings me the most joy to cook the dishes my children specifically ask for.
Step 13
These specially prepared dishes are not only perfect for birthdays but would also be wonderful to make and enjoy with the family on any ordinary day.
