Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of cooked rice
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 5-6 cloves of whole garlic, minced (or 2 Tbsp minced garlic)
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Korean green chili pepper (Cheongyang pepper)
  • 1 egg

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Finely mince the Korean green chili pepper. If you prefer less spiciness, you can soak the minced pepper in cold water for about 15 minutes, then drain and pat it dry.

Step 1

Step 2

Finely mince 5-6 cloves of whole garlic. If using pre-minced garlic, measure out 2 tablespoons.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 3

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low. Add 1 bowl of cooked rice (preferably not microwaved if using instant rice) to the pan. Add 2 pinches of salt, a pinch of black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Stir-fry gently for about 2 minutes, ensuring the rice and seasonings are well combined. Break up any clumps of rice.

Step 4

Step 5

Serve the garlic fried rice in a bowl. Top with the minced green chili pepper and a fried egg cooked to your preference (sunny-side up is recommended for a runny yolk).
