Main Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 strips of bacon, cut into 2cm pieces
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 300g tteokbokki rice cakes
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Gochujang Cream Sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 0.5 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thinly slice the onion and cut the bacon into approximately 2cm pieces. Preparing your ingredients beforehand will ensure a smooth cooking process.

Step 1

Step 2

Bring a pot of water to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Adding salt while boiling helps the broccoli maintain its vibrant green color and removes any faint odors. Blanch the broccoli florets for about 1 minute, then immediately rinse them under cold water to preserve their bright color and drain well. This step ensures the broccoli stays crisp.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of olive oil. Add the minced garlic, sliced onions, and chopped bacon. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sauté until the onions become translucent and the bacon is lightly browned. As the bacon cooks, it will release its flavorful fat, enhancing the aroma of the dish.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the onions are translucent and well-sautéed, pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk. Stir in 1.5 tablespoons of gochujang and 0.5 tablespoon of gochugaru to create the signature sauce. Gently simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 4

Step 5

As the sauce begins to gently bubble, add the 300g of tteokbokki rice cakes. Stir well to ensure the rice cakes are evenly coated in the sauce. Let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes, or until the rice cakes are tender and have absorbed the flavors of the sauce. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Step 5

Step 6

When the rice cakes are tender, add the blanched broccoli florets and gently mix everything together. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Simmer for another moment, allowing the gochujang cream sauce to meld beautifully with all the ingredients for a deeper flavor. Enjoy your delicious creation!
