Main Ingredients

  • 5 chicken drumsticks
  • 500g chicken gizzards

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 5 chicken drumsticks and 500g of chicken gizzards. I’ve prepared a generous amount to share with family and friends.

Step 1

Step 2

To remove any gamey smell from the chicken drumsticks, soak them in milk for about 30 minutes. Milk is effective at neutralizing the odor in chicken.

Step 2

Step 3

Similarly, after cleaning the chicken gizzards, soak them in milk for 30 minutes to eliminate any unpleasant odor. This preserves their chewy texture while ensuring a clean taste.

Step 3

Step 4

Introducing the star of this recipe, ‘Magic Chicken Powder’! I’m excited to try it as it claims to make chicken easily in an air fryer or microwave. I’ll be mixing the spicy and mild flavors for a balanced taste.

Step 4

Step 5

Rinse the chicken drumsticks and gizzards that were soaked in milk and pat them dry. Then, lightly season them with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika powder (you can omit this if you don’t have it). Smoked paprika adds a subtle smoky aroma.

Step 5

Step 6

Combine the spicy and mild versions of the Magic Chicken Powder in equal parts. Mixing these two flavors will result in a richer taste profile.

Step 6

Step 7

Add 3 tablespoons of canola oil to the mixed chicken powder and stir well. The oil helps prevent the powder from clumping and ensures it adheres better to the chicken.

Step 7

Step 8

If the chicken powder mixture seems too dry, add a little more canola oil, mixing thoroughly to avoid clumps. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy coating.

Step 8

Step 9

Now it’s time to coat the seasoned drumsticks and gizzards evenly with the chicken powder. Since this is my first time using Magic Chicken Powder, I followed the instructions and applied it directly without using a preliminary flour coating. However, for an extra crispy texture, you might consider coating them lightly with regular flour or starch first!

Step 9

Step 10

Here’s the chicken coated with powder. It doesn’t feel like the powder adhered as evenly as I expected. Next time, I think I’ll lightly coat with flour or starch first, then apply the chicken powder for a more uniform and crispy crust.

Step 10

Step 11

First, cook the chicken gizzards in the air fryer at 180°C (356°F) for 10 minutes. They won’t be fully cooked yet, so flip them and cook for another 10 minutes. Check their doneness, flip again, and cook for an additional 5 minutes. A total of about 25 minutes of cooking will result in tender and chewy gizzards.

Step 11

Step 12

While the gizzards are cooking, place the chicken drumsticks on a microwave-safe plate, propped up on wooden chopsticks. Arrange the coated drumsticks alongside and microwave for 4 minutes. This helps the coating set slightly so it doesn’t fall off easily.

Step 12

Step 13

These are the drumsticks after microwaving. Some parts of the coating have come off a little, but that’s okay! Now, transfer these drumsticks to the air fryer and cook at 200°C (392°F) for 10 minutes. Remember to take them out and flip them halfway through for even cooking. A total of 20 minutes of cooking (including flipping) will yield crispy results.

Step 13

Step 14

Voilà! The crispy fried chicken drumsticks and gizzards are finally ready! There are a few slightly burnt spots, but that adds to their charm. Feel free to serve them with fried spring rolls or frozen fries to make it a feast. Homemade fried chicken is truly delicious!
