Main Ingredients- 1 cup well-fermented kimchi (standard paper cup)
- 150g thick-cut bacon
- 1 bowl of warm rice
- 15cm segment of green onion
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the green onion, which will add depth to your fried rice. Take a 15cm piece of green onion, wash the root part thoroughly, and then finely mince it with a knife. Mincing it this way allows the green onion oil to infuse more deeply, enhancing the dish’s flavor profile.
Step 2
Now, prepare the stars of our fried rice: kimchi and bacon. Measure out about 1 cup of kimchi (using a standard paper cup). If your kimchi is very sour, it’s a good idea to gently squeeze out some excess juice before stir-frying. Prepare about 150g of bacon, cutting it into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3cm). Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your bacon for optimal crispiness.
Step 3
Let’s start stir-frying! Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add the minced green onion and cook to create green onion oil. Stir-frying for about 1 minute will release the fragrant aroma of the green onion into the oil, creating a flavorful base. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Step 4
Once the fragrant aroma of the green onion oil begins to rise, add the sliced bacon and stir-fry until it turns golden brown. Cook for about 1 minute, allowing the bacon to render its fat and become nicely crispy and savory. Be careful not to overcook the bacon until it becomes hard.
Step 5
When the bacon is nicely browned, add the prepared kimchi and stir-fry together. Keep stirring to prevent the kimchi from sticking to the bottom of the pan. If your kimchi is too sour, you can add 1/2 tablespoon of sugar to mellow out the acidity and add a touch of sweetness for a balanced flavor.
Step 6
Once the kimchi is softened and well combined with the bacon, add 1 bowl of warm rice and stir-fry. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and ensure it is cooked until fluffy and separate. The key is to stir-fry the rice thoroughly so that each grain is coated with the flavors of the kimchi and bacon.
Step 7
When the rice is thoroughly stir-fried and fluffy, add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Stir it in to coat everything evenly, and your delicious Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice is complete! The oyster sauce adds a wonderful umami depth to the dish. Enjoy while it’s hot!
