Gourmet Tteokgalbi Sandwich: A Hearty and Delicious Treat
Homemade Tteokgalbi Sandwich Recipe for a Special Meal
Hello there! Fueling ourselves with good food is essential. Tteokgalbi, a Korean grilled short rib patty, is incredibly popular these days. I love keeping a stash of it in my fridge to use in various dishes. While delicious on its own, Tteokgalbi transforms into a fantastic patty for burgers or sandwiches, offering a unique and delightful flavor experience. Today, let’s craft a special and delicious Tteokgalbi sandwich! It’s a wonderful way to enjoy leftover Tteokgalbi or create a standout meal.
Main Ingredients & Vegetables
- 100g frozen Tteokgalbi (Korean grilled short rib patty)
- 2 slices thick-cut bread
- 1 fresh egg
- 6 dill pickle slices
- 1/2 leaf of cabbage
- 1/4 onion, thinly sliced
- 1/8 carrot, thinly sliced
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
- 4 leaves fresh lettuce and assorted greens
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start with a pack of frozen Tteokgalbi as your main ingredient. Feel free to raid your refrigerator for any leftover vegetables you have to make your sandwich even richer! Prepare your homemade or store-bought dill pickles, a fresh egg, and a colorful assortment of greens like lettuce. Thinly slice the cabbage, onion, and carrot. Don’t forget the cheddar cheese for that creamy, savory touch. You can also add sliced ham for extra flavor!
Step 2
Lightly grease a heated pan with oil. Place the thawed Tteokgalbi in the pan and cook over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes, flipping occasionally until it’s nicely browned and slightly crispy, enhancing its savory flavor.
Step 3
Crack the fresh egg into a bowl. Add a tiny pinch of salt to season it lightly and whisk until well combined.
Step 4
Using the same pan (no need to wash!), add a little more oil if needed. Pour in the whisked egg and cook until it forms a thin, even omelet. Ensure it’s cooked through.
Step 5
In the same pan where you cooked the egg, place the two slices of bread. Toast them lightly on both sides until golden brown, using very little to no oil for a lighter sandwich.
Step 6
Take one slice of the toasted bread and carefully place the cooked egg omelet on top, trimming it to fit the bread shape if necessary. Layer generously with your assorted greens and lettuce. Then, add a handful of the thinly sliced cabbage, onion, and carrot for a delightful crunch.
Step 7
In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise with 1/2 tablespoon of ketchup to create a simple sauce. Drizzle this sauce over the vegetables. Arrange the pickle slices attractively on top, followed by the perfectly cooked Tteokgalbi patty. Finally, crown it with a slice of cheddar cheese.
Step 8
Place the other slice of toasted bread on top to complete your sandwich. Because this sandwich is quite thick, it might be a bit unwieldy to eat.
Step 9
To make it easier to handle, wrap the thick sandwich securely in parchment paper. Then, using a serrated bread knife, carefully slice it in half.
Step 10
Voilà! Your delicious and hearty Tteokgalbi sandwich is ready. Enjoy this delightful creation for a special brunch or a satisfying snack!
