Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the sauce for our delicious Ham and Egg Rice Bowl. In a bowl, combine 3 Tbsp of mirin, 1/2 Tbsp of gochugaru, 2 Tbsp of oligosaccharide, 1 Tbsp of tonkatsu sauce, 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, 1/2 Tbsp of fish sauce, a pinch of black pepper, and 1/2 paper cup of water. Stir well until all ingredients are combined. Preparing the sauce in advance will help shorten your cooking time.

Step 1

Step 2

Peel the onions and cut them into thick slices, about 0.5cm wide. Prepare the whole garlic cloves by mincing them coarsely or slicing them thinly. This will infuse the dish with a rich garlic aroma.

Step 2

Step 3

Open the canned ham and cut it into slices about 1cm thick, then cut these slices into strips about 1cm wide. Avoid cutting them too thin, as they might fall apart during cooking. Aim for a bite-sized, manageable cut.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the prepared garlic and sauté slowly until fragrant and lightly golden brown. Be careful not to burn the garlic; slow cooking releases its wonderful aroma.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the garlic is fragrant and golden, add the sliced onions to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until the onions become translucent. Sautéing the onions thoroughly will bring out their natural sweetness and soften their texture.

Step 5

Step 6

When the onions start to turn transparent, pour in all the pre-made sauce. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the ingredients. Make sure to stir to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the sauce has reduced and the onions are tender, add the sliced canned ham. Stir gently to ensure the ham is evenly coated with the sauce. Cook for a short while; overcooking the ham can make it dry and tough.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, add the chopped green onions and toss everything together to combine. The fresh aroma of the green onions will add a nice balance to the overall flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

In a separate bowl, crack the 3 eggs and beat them thoroughly. Push the ham and onion mixture to one side of the pan, creating space. Pour the beaten eggs into the empty space and gently stir with chopsticks as they cook, similar to making scrambled eggs. When the eggs are about 70-80% cooked, turn off the heat. The residual heat will finish cooking the eggs, ensuring a wonderfully soft and tender texture. Don’t overcook them!

Step 9

Step 10

Prepare a bowl of freshly steamed hot rice. The warmth and aroma of newly cooked rice will elevate your rice bowl experience.

Step 10

Step 11

Generously spoon the ham and egg mixture over the hot rice. To finish, drizzle a little perilla oil for a nutty aroma and sprinkle some sesame seeds for a touch of texture and visual appeal. Your simple and delicious Ham and Egg Rice Bowl is ready! Enjoy your meal!
