Basic Ingredients- 2 slices of bread
- Fresh lettuce leaves
- 1 slice of cheddar cheese
- 1-2 slices of ham
- 1/4 onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 tomato (thinly sliced)
- 2-3 pickles (thinly sliced)
Optional Ingredients (Choose according to your preference)- Strawberry jam or sandwich sauce
Ham, Vegetable, and Cheese Sandwich Sauce- 2 Tbsp mustard
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar (optional)
- Strawberry jam or sandwich sauce
Ham, Vegetable, and Cheese Sandwich Sauce- 2 Tbsp mustard
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the egg for the sandwich. Crack 1 egg into a bowl, add two pinches of salt, and whisk thoroughly with a fork. Whisking it well will result in a smoother egg layer.
Step 2
Lightly grease a pan and heat it over medium-low heat. Pour the whisked egg thinly and cook until golden brown on both sides. Gently breaking the yolk as it cooks will make it even softer. Let the cooked egg layer cool slightly.
Step 3
Wash the fresh lettuce leaves thoroughly under running water and pat them dry. Separate them into individual leaves. Slice the tomato thinly, about 0.3-0.5 cm thick, and prepare similarly sliced pickles. Thinly slice the onion to reduce its sharpness.
Step 4
If using sliced ham, you can lightly pan-fry it without oil for enhanced flavor. If you don’t have ham, thinly sliced deli ham works well too.
Step 5
Now, let’s make the sandwich sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp mustard and 1 Tbsp mayonnaise. Mix well. For a touch of sweetness, you can add 1/3 Tbsp of sugar. If the sauce seems too thick, feel free to add a little more mayonnaise.
Step 6
Strawberry jam is also a fantastic choice! If making the mustard and mayonnaise sauce sounds like too much work, simply spreading strawberry jam instead offers a delightful sweet and tangy flavor that pairs wonderfully with the sandwich.
Step 7
Toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a dry pan until the edges are crisp. Toasted bread adds a wonderful texture to the sandwich.
Step 8
Tip! If you stack the toasted bread slices right after toasting, they can become soggy from steam. Try leaning them against each other to maintain their crispiness for longer.
Step 9
Alright, with all our ingredients ready, let’s assemble this delicious ham, vegetable, and cheese sandwich! Start by spreading a generous amount of the prepared sauce on one side of a toasted bread slice.
Step 10
Layer the sliced ham and cheddar cheese on top of the sauce. If you like melted cheese, you can place it while the bread is still warm.
Step 11
Next, add the softly cooked egg layer, thinly sliced pickles, and fresh lettuce leaves for a beautiful presentation.
Step 12
Finally, place the thinly sliced tomato and onion on top. Spread sauce on the other slice of bread and place it on top like a lid to complete your delicious ham, vegetable, and cheese sandwich!
Step 13
Tip! If you’re eating it immediately, placing the tomato and onion on top is fine. However, if you’re packing it as a lunchbox or plan to eat it later, to prevent the bread from getting soggy, it’s recommended to layer the ingredients in this order: Bread – Sauce – Ham – Cheese – Lettuce – Pickles – Egg – Tomato – Onion. This way, ingredients with high moisture content won’t directly touch the bread, keeping it fresher for longer.
