Tofu Burger Patties

  • 1.5 blocks firm tofu
  • 3 Tbsp potato starch
  • 1 large egg
  • A pinch of black sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, press the tofu to remove as much moisture as possible. You can use paper towels to press it down or let it drain in a colander for about 30 minutes. Once drained, place the tofu in a bowl and mash it with a fork or your hands. Add the potato starch and the egg to the mashed tofu, mixing well until it forms a cohesive mixture. If the mixture seems too wet, you can add a little more potato starch.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Shape the tofu mixture into burger patty rounds and place them in the hot pan. Sprinkle black sesame seeds over the patties for decoration. Carefully pour 1-2 tablespoons of water around the edges of the pan and immediately cover it with a lid. This steaming process helps keep the tofu patties moist.

Once the bottom of the tofu patties is golden brown, carefully flip them over. Again, add 1-2 tablespoons of water around the edges of the pan, cover with the lid, and continue to steam them until cooked through. This steaming method is key to achieving a tender and moist tofu patty. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until both sides are nicely browned.

While the tofu patties are cooking, prepare your burger fillings. Slice the onion and tomato thinly, ensuring they are roughly the same size as your tofu patties. Wash the lettuce leaves and pat them dry. You can optionally pan-fry the ham slices briefly for extra flavor.

Now it’s time to assemble your delicious Tofu Burger! Place one cooked tofu patty on a plate. Spread your favorite sauce on top. Layer the ingredients: start with lettuce leaves, then sliced tomatoes, onions, ham slices, and finally, the cheese slices.
