Diet-Friendly Tofu Inari Sushi Recipe Made with Mashed Tofu
Enjoy a light yet satisfying meal with this diet-friendly recipe, perfect for when you want to feel full without the heaviness, made with wholesome tofu.
Ingredients- 2 blocks (approx. 700g) firm tofu
- 1 pack of store-bought inari sushi kit (includes seasoned fried tofu pouches, sushi rice seasoning, and dried toppings)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the tofu: Take 2 blocks of firm tofu. Use the back of a knife to gently mash the tofu until it’s crumbly. Then, wrap the mashed tofu in a cheesecloth or paper towels and squeeze out as much excess water as possible. This crucial step removes any unwanted soy bean smell and enhances the tofu’s clean, delicate flavor.
Step 2
Dry-fry the tofu: Heat a dry non-stick pan over medium-low heat (no oil needed). Add the squeezed tofu and break it apart with a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Stir-fry until all the remaining moisture has evaporated and the tofu has a crumbly, slightly dry texture. This process not only removes any residual moisture but also develops a pleasant, slightly nutty flavor and a satisfying texture.
Step 3
Mix and stuff the inari: To the dry-fried tofu, add all the contents from the store-bought inari sushi kit – the sushi vinegar seasoning and the dried toppings (like seasoned flakes and seaweed). Gently mix everything together until well combined. Carefully stuff this tofu mixture into the seasoned fried tofu pouches, shaping them nicely for an appealing presentation. Ensure the filling is packed snugly but doesn’t tear the delicate pouches.
Step 4
Garnish and serve: Arrange the filled tofu inari sushi on a plate. Top generously with fresh sprouts. The sprouts add a delightful crisp texture and a fresh, slightly peppery note that complements the seasoned tofu and rice. They also add a vibrant splash of color, making the dish visually appealing. Your healthy and delicious Tofu Inari Sushi is now ready to be enjoyed!
