Heartwarming Homemade Bento Box
A Bento Box Crafted with Love for My Daughter Missing Home-Cooked Meals
For children away from home, the biggest concern is often food. My daughter mentioned that the dormitory meals weren’t to her liking, so she’d been eating out. To ensure she has nutritious and comforting food, I’ve been preparing bento boxes for her to share with her friends whenever she visits. This recipe offers a delicious bento box filled with my warm maternal affection.

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
[Aromatic Grilled Prawns] Spread about 2 cups of coarse salt evenly across the bottom of a wide frying pan, creating a salty bed. Arrange the cleaned large prawns nicely on top.
Step 2
Cover the frying pan with a lid and cook over medium-low heat. Gently grill the prawns until they are cooked through and their natural flavors are enhanced by the salt. They are ready when they turn a beautiful reddish-pink.
Step 3
[Colorful Rolled Omelette] Crack 3 fresh eggs into a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and whisk gently to break the yolks and combine. Heat a frying pan over medium heat and lightly grease with cooking oil. Pour in half of the whisked egg mixture and spread it thinly to form a layer.
Step 4
As the egg layer begins to set, tear the 2 sheets of aromatic seaweed (Gamtte) into manageable pieces and place them over the egg. Carefully roll the egg from one end using a spatula or rolling mat, like making a Swiss roll. Once rolled, pour the remaining egg mixture around it and continue rolling to create a thick, layered omelette. Cook until golden brown on all sides.
Step 5
[Hearty Beef and Vegetable Porridge] First, finely dice 1/4 of a bell pepper, removing the seeds. Heat a pan with a little oil and sauté the ground beef and diced bell pepper until the beef is browned.
Step 6
In a pot, add 1 bowl of leftover cooked rice. Drizzle about 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil and stir gently to prevent the rice from clumping. Sauté the rice until it becomes slightly fluffy, which will make the porridge even more delicious.
Step 7
Add the sautéed beef and bell pepper mixture, along with 3 cups of water, to the pot. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat and simmer until the rice breaks down and the porridge thickens. Season with salt to taste. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and shredded seaweed for a nutritious and flavorful porridge.
Step 8
[Savory Beef Rice Balls] Prepare the sautéed ground beef (cooked the same way as for the porridge) and finely chopped 1/2 bell pepper. In a bowl, combine 1 bowl of warm cooked rice with the sautéed beef and bell pepper. Mix all the prepared ingredients together.
Step 9
Add the shredded seaweed, toasted sesame seeds, a drizzle of sesame oil, and a pinch of salt to the rice mixture. Mix well with your hands (wearing disposable gloves is recommended). Once combined, shape the mixture into bite-sized balls. These savory rice balls are perfect for on-the-go!
