Rice Cooking Ingredients
- 300g fresh bean sprouts
- 100g minced beef
- 2 cups rice (about 400ml)
- 1 handful of chopped scallions
- 2 cups kelp stock (for deeper flavor)
Beef Marinating Sauce
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 2 cups of rice for cooking. Place the rice in a bowl and rinse it under running water about three to four times until clean. Drain the washed rice and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Soaking the rice will result in chewier and tastier grains.
Step 2
Prepare 300g of fresh bean sprouts. Remove any dirty or spoiled ends, rinse them thoroughly in water to clean, and lightly drain before setting aside.
Step 3
Marinate the 100g of minced beef. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp cooking wine, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Add a pinch of black pepper and mix well with your hands. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes to remove any gamey smell and enhance the flavor.
Step 4
Stir-fry the marinated beef. Lightly grease a pot or frying pan with olive oil. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry over high heat until it becomes crumbly. Once cooked, set it aside.
Step 5
Place the soaked rice into a rice cooker or pot. Add 2 cups of kelp stock (maintaining a 1:1 ratio of rice to liquid). Using kelp stock will give the rice a richer and deeper flavor. Start by boiling over high heat.
Step 6
Once the liquid begins to boil, evenly arrange the prepared bean sprouts over the rice. The moisture from the bean sprouts will help cook the rice deliciously.
Step 7
After adding the bean sprouts, immediately cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat to medium. Let it simmer for 10 minutes. This step ensures the rice is cooked thoroughly inside before resting.
Step 8
After 10 minutes, turn the heat to very low or turn it off completely. Neatly arrange the stir-fried beef and chopped scallions on top of the rice. Cover tightly and let it rest for 10 minutes. This steaming process will result in perfectly cooked rice grains and harmoniously blended ingredients.
Step 9
Finally, mix all the seasoning sauce ingredients together: 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds. You can add chopped green chili or more scallions to your preference. Serve this delicious seasoning sauce with the bean sprout rice and mix well for the most flavorful bean sprout rice you’ll ever have!
