Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet Jjajang powder
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1/2 medium Carrot
  • 1 medium Potato
  • 200g Ground Pork
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash and peel 1 onion, then dice it into 1cm cubes. Cutting them not too small will give you a pleasant chew.

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare 1/2 carrot, peel it, and then dice it into 1cm cubes, similar to the onion. The sweetness of the carrot will add flavor to the jjajang sauce.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare 1 potato, peel it, and dice it into 1cm cubes along with the carrot and onion. Adding potato will make the jjajang sauce even smoother and more substantial.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, it’s time to stir-fry. Heat a deep pan or wok over high heat, add 200g of ground pork and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Stir constantly with a spatula to prevent burning and stir-fry over high heat until the pork is browned and cooked through. Frying the pork until it releases its fat and turns opaque is crucial to eliminate any gamey smell and enhance its savory flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the ground pork is fully cooked, add all the diced onion, carrot, and potato to the pan. Stir-fry together for about 5 minutes until the vegetables start to turn translucent and the potato and carrot are halfway cooked. Stir-frying the vegetables in oil will bring out their sweetness and flavor. At this point, get your water ready to add.

Step 5

Step 6

When the vegetables are halfway cooked, add the amount of water corresponding to 1 packet of jjajang powder. Gradually add the jjajang powder while dissolving it. It’s important to stir quickly with a spatula to prevent lumps and ensure it mixes well. Start cooking over medium heat rather than high heat.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the jjajang sauce begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Continue stirring with the spatula to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pan. After simmering for about 5-7 minutes, the sauce will bubble and gradually thicken, resulting in a glossy and delicious jjajang sauce. Turn off the heat when it reaches your desired consistency.

Step 7

Step 8

Spoon a generous amount of the finished jjajang sauce over a bowl of warm rice! If you like, you can add crispy fried shrimp or a soft fried egg as toppings for an even more impressive Jjajangbap. Enjoy this delicious Jjajangbap that the whole family will love!
