Main Ingredients

  • Beef (for soup) 130g
  • Potatoes 210g (about 2 medium-sized)
  • Water 800ml
  • Green Onion 20g

Seasoning

  • Minced Garlic 0.5 Tbsp
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Soup Soy Sauce (Guk-ganjang) 1 Tbsp
  • Salt 0.5 Tbsp (adjust to taste)
  • Black Pepper 0.2 tsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Before you begin, prepare your ingredients: 130g of beef, 210g of potatoes, and 20g of green onion. Make sure the potatoes are washed clean.

Step 1

Step 2

Peel the prepared potatoes and cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm cubes). Cutting them into larger chunks will help them hold their shape while cooking.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pot over medium heat. Add the 130g of beef and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil to enhance the aroma.

Step 3

Step 4

Add 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic to the pot with the sesame oil and stir-fry with the beef. This step will help remove any gamey odor from the beef and develop its flavor as the garlic becomes fragrant.

Step 4

Step 5

When the beef is about halfway cooked, add the cubed potatoes to the pot and continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes. Lightly sautéing the potatoes helps to keep the broth clear and releases their natural sweetness.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour 800ml of water into the pot with the sautéed beef and potatoes. Bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, skim off any foam that rises to the surface. Season with 1 Tbsp of soup soy sauce and 0.5 Tbsp of salt. Then, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 15 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Ensuring the potatoes are cooked through is key.

Step 6

Step 7

Add another 1 Tbsp of soup soy sauce to deepen the savory flavor. (Adjust the amount of salt based on the saltiness of your soup soy sauce.)

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, add 0.2 tsp of black pepper to refine the taste and eliminate any lingering odors. You can adjust the amount of pepper to your preference.

Step 8

Step 9

Finish by adding a generous amount of chopped green onions. The fresh aroma of the green onions will further enhance the soup’s flavor. Serve hot for a satisfying and comforting meal.
