Super Simple Budae Jjigae You Can Make with Just One Hand!
When I want to cook a delicious meal on my own, I find myself reaching for recipes that require minimal effort! That’s why I decided to make Budae Jjigae in an ultra-simple version. It’s a universally loved dish, but my daughters often make it themselves when I’m not around, so I figured I didn’t need to make it. However, this time, I was craving it myself, so I made it! Using a pre-sliced assorted ham package from the supermarket made it incredibly convenient. I also minimized the ingredients and adjusted the seasoning to perfectly complement the store-bought beef bone broth. Honestly, Budae Jjigae is my ‘secret weapon’ dish, so it’s no secret that I was incredibly impressed with my own cooking! On a gloomy day like today, how about a bubbling pot of spicy and delicious Budae Jjigae? Enjoy a wonderful weekend, everyone~♡
Main Ingredients- 1 packet (1L) store-bought beef bone broth
- 1/2 packet (approx. 200-250g) assorted Budae Jjigae ham
- 2/3 onion
- 3 frozen dumplings
- 250g minced beef
- 1 packet instant ramen noodles
- A bunch of green onions
- 1 cup kimchi (such as kkakdugi or napa cabbage kimchi)
Seasoning Paste- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp red pepper paste (gochujang)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp red pepper paste (gochujang)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the seasoning paste for a delicious Budae Jjigae. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp cooking wine, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 3 Tbsp gochugaru. Mix them well. Preparing the seasoning paste in advance makes cooking much easier later on.
Step 2
Peel and thoroughly wash the onion. Then, slice it into strips about 0.5cm thick. Slicing them too thinly might cause them to break apart while cooking, so aim for a moderate thickness.
Step 3
Wash the green onions and slice them diagonally into 4-5cm lengths, keeping both the white and green parts. Diagonal cuts help the green onion flavor infuse well into the broth and make the dish look more appealing.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to prepare the stew pot and arrange the ingredients attractively. Along the sides of the pot, place the assorted Budae Jjigae ham, sliced onion, dumplings, minced beef, and kimchi in a visually pleasing manner. In the center, add the instant ramen noodles for an even more appetizing look.
Step 5
Pour the 1 packet (1L) of store-bought beef bone broth over the ingredients, ensuring they are well submerged. Using beef bone broth eliminates the need to make your own stock, providing a deep and rich flavor conveniently.
Step 6
Now, bring the stew to a boil over high heat. Once the broth starts boiling, add about a ladleful of the prepared seasoning paste to adjust the flavor. Taste and add more seasoning as needed. Continue to simmer for about 5-7 minutes until all ingredients are cooked through and the broth is bubbling vigorously. Add the instant ramen noodles during this simmering time to cook them.
Step 7
Transfer the bubbling, delicious Budae Jjigae to your warm table and enjoy it immediately! Feel free to add Tteok (rice cakes) or tofu for an enhanced taste, according to your preference. Have a wonderful mealtime with this hearty and spicy Budae Jjigae!
