  • Plenty of thick, square fish cakes
  • 1 packet Eomuk sauce (fish cake soup base)
  • 2-3 shiitake mushrooms
  • 1-2 Cheongyang peppers (optional)
  • 1 red chili pepper (optional)
  • 1-2 boiled eggs

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly rinse the generous amount of fish cakes you’ve prepared under running water. These thick, healthy fish cakes make me even more excited about the soup!

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces or your desired shapes. If you have cookie cutters, you can use them to create cute shapes that children will love! (Optional)

Step 2

Step 3

Place all the prepared ingredients – fish cakes, shiitake mushrooms, and boiled eggs – into a pot. Pour in enough water or kelp stock to cover the ingredients. Add the store-bought Eomuk sauce and bring to a boil.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the soup starts boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. If you feel the soup needs more seasoning, lightly adjust the taste with salt or soup soy sauce. If you prefer a spicier flavor, add chopped Cheongyang peppers at this stage.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, add sliced red chili peppers and simmer for a little longer; this will enhance both the color and the taste. (Optional) If you have crown daisy (ssukgat), adding it will bring a lovely fragrance. If crown daisy is unavailable, garnishing with celery leaves can also be a nice touch.

Step 5

Step 6

The freshly made Eomuk Tang is best enjoyed immediately! To keep it warm while serving, consider placing the pot on a portable burner.
