- Sesame oil 2 Tbsp
- Ground black pepper to taste (2-3 shakes)
- Soy sauce for soup 1 Tbsp
- Salt 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the dried seaweed. Soak the seaweed in cold water for about 10-15 minutes until fully rehydrated. Rinse the softened seaweed thoroughly by rubbing it with your hands, then cut it into bite-sized pieces or lengths that are easy to pick up with chopsticks.
Step 2
Peel and wash the potatoes, then dice them into small, bite-sized cubes (about 1-1.5cm) suitable for a child. Soaking the diced potatoes in cold water briefly will remove excess starch, resulting in a clearer broth and preventing the potatoes from becoming too mushy.
Step 3
Rinse the beef for soup under cold water to remove any surface blood. Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces, or pieces small enough for a child to mash easily with their tongue.
Step 4
Add the prepared seaweed and diced beef to a pot. Drizzle with 2 Tbsp of sesame oil and sauté over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. As the beef’s surface cooks, it will meld with the seaweed, enhancing the overall flavor.
Step 5
Once the beef and seaweed are sufficiently sautéed, pour in 2L of water. Add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce for soup and 1 tsp of salt to season. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors of the beef and seaweed to deeply infuse the broth.
Step 6
After simmering for 15-20 minutes to develop the savory broth, add the diced potatoes to the pot. Stir well to ensure the potatoes are submerged in the liquid.
Step 7
Continue to cook until the potatoes are tender (about 10-15 minutes). Your hearty potato and beef seaweed soup is now ready! Once the potatoes are soft and fluffy, turn off the heat. Optionally, add a pinch of black pepper to finish. Enjoy this delicious soup with a warm bowl of rice!
