Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by cooking the rice for your delicious rice burgers! Prepare 2 servings of Yangpyeong Cham Dream Rice. The ideal ratio of rice to water is 1:1 (e.g., 2 cups rice to 2 cups water). Cook the rice in your rice cooker until it’s fluffy and slightly firm.
Step 2
Prepare the tteokgalbi and fried eggs that will add flavor to your burgers. Pan-fry the tteokgalbi until golden brown. For the eggs, fry them to your preference, either sunny-side up or fully cooked. Fried eggs add a lovely moistness to the rice burger.
Step 3
Prepare the fresh vegetables. Thinly slice the tomatoes and onions. Cut the lettuce leaves to a size that fits your rice burger. Make sure to wash them thoroughly and pat them dry.
Step 4
Place the cooked rice in a bowl. Season the rice with a pinch of salt, about 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. For an extra boost of umami, mix in about 1/2 tablespoon of steak sauce (or soy sauce). It’s best to mix the seasonings into the warm rice so they absorb well. Shape the seasoned rice into round, flat patties, similar to burger buns. Using a rice mold can help create neater shapes.
Step 5
Now it’s time to assemble your rice burgers! Layer the ingredients onto one rice patty: start with lettuce, followed by tomato slices, onion slices, a slice of cheddar cheese, the pan-fried tteokgalbi, and finally, the fried egg. You can stack them in any order you prefer. These rice burgers are best enjoyed warm! They also make a perfect packed lunch for a picnic.
