Ingredients
  • 1 can of Mokwoochan “Ttuksim”
  • 1/3 carrot
  • A small amount of broccoli
  • 1 egg
  • 1 bowl of cooked rice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, carefully open the can of “Ttuksim”. Line the inside of the can with a plastic bag; this will make it much easier to shape and remove the rice cake later.

Step 2

Slice the “Ttuksim” into uniform thickness, suitable for children to eat. Approximately 0.5 cm thick is ideal.

Step 3

Wash and peel the carrot, then mince it very finely. Mincing it as finely as possible will make it easier for children to eat.

Step 4

Wash the broccoli thoroughly under running water. Blanch it in boiling salted water for about 30 seconds, then rinse in cold water, drain well, and mince finely. This preparation helps make it more palatable for children.

Step 5

Heat a frying pan with a little oil and lightly pan-fry the sliced “Ttuksim” on both sides until golden brown. This not only enhances its flavor but also helps firm up the cake structure.

Step 6

Add the minced carrot to the frying pan with a little oil and sauté until tender and slightly sweet. The natural sweetness of the carrot will make it more appealing to kids.

Step 7

Crack one egg into a bowl and whisk it well to create an egg wash. Pour the egg wash over one bowl of warm cooked rice and mix thoroughly, ensuring the rice grains are well coated and not clumped. If the rice is too hot, the egg might cook prematurely, so let it cool slightly before mixing.

Step 8

Add the egg-coated rice to the frying pan with a little oil. Stir continuously with a spatula while cooking until the rice becomes slightly firm and distinct, like ‘kko-deul kko-deul’ (chewy yet separate grains). This step ensures a pleasant texture.

Step 9

Combine the sautéed carrots and the blanched, minced broccoli with the cooked egg rice. Mix everything together well. The vibrant colors will be very attractive to children.

Step 10

Now, layer the prepared rice mixture inside the “Ttuksim” can. Start with a slice of “Ttuksim” at the bottom, followed by the carrot rice, then another “Ttuksim”, broccoli rice, “Ttuksim”, egg rice, and finally top with a slice of “Ttuksim”. Press down firmly with a spatula after adding each layer to compact the rice and create a solid cake shape.

Step 11

Finally, grasp the plastic bag lining the can and slowly pull it upwards. The rice cake should slide out smoothly, maintaining its shape. Your delicious “Ttuksim” rice cake is now complete! Enjoy a fun mealtime with your child.
