- 1 egg

- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- A pinch of salt
- 6 Tbsp tonkatsu sauce or steak sauce (for serving)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Before we begin, let’s make a wonderful rice steak using leftover rice. This recipe is loved by everyone, from kids to adults, and will help you create a joyful meal for your family and loved ones.
Step 2
First, wash and finely chop a variety of vegetables you have on hand (e.g., onion, carrot, bell pepper, zucchini). Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat and gently sauté the chopped vegetables for about 3-5 minutes until they soften slightly. Be careful not to overcook them; you want to bring out their natural sweetness and aroma.
Step 3
Once the sautéed vegetables have cooled slightly, place the 2 bowls of leftover rice in a mixing bowl. Add the sautéed vegetables, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce for flavor, and a pinch of salt to your preference. Gently mix everything together with a spatula, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure the rice and vegetables are well combined.
Step 4
If you don’t have a variety of vegetables, finely chopped green onions (scallions) can also be used effectively. In this case, mix the chopped green onions with leftover rice, 1 egg, a little oyster sauce, and a pinch of salt, then stir-fry to create a delicious fried rice base.
Step 5
Take about a handful of the rice mixture and form it into a round ball, then flatten it into a patty shape, about 1.5 cm thick. Making them not too thick will ensure they cook through evenly and hold their shape nicely, much like a traditional steak.
Step 6
In a separate shallow bowl, beat the egg. Dip each rice patty into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s coated evenly on all sides. Gently press to help the egg adhere to the patty.
Step 7
Next, transfer the egg-coated rice patty to a plate or shallow dish filled with breadcrumbs. Press the patty into the breadcrumbs, coating both sides thoroughly. Patting the breadcrumbs firmly will result in a crispier texture when cooked.
Step 8
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the breadcrumb-coated rice patties into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Since the rice is already cooked, you only need to focus on crisping up the exterior. Adjust the heat to prevent burning.
Step 9
Arrange the beautifully cooked rice steaks on a plate. Drizzle generously with tonkatsu sauce or steak sauce according to your preference. Serve alongside fresh seasonal fruits or a nicely prepared salad to create a sophisticated and satisfying rice steak meal that rivals any restaurant. Enjoy your delightful dining experience!
