Super Easy Tuna Mayo Rice Ball Recipe | Perfect for Kids’ Meals, Simple Breakfast Menu | Kim Jin Ok’s Cooking Secrets
Hello everyone! This is Kim Jin Ok. With the winter break approaching soon, many working parents are wondering what to make for their children’s meals. Today, I’m introducing a recipe for ‘Tuna Mayo Rice Balls’ that are simple yet satisfying! They’re perfect for kids’ snacks, a quick breakfast, or a light meal.
Ingredients (for 9-10 rice balls)- 2 bowls of cooked rice
- 1 can of tuna
- 4 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- 3 Tbsp finely chopped pickled radish (danmuji)
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped pickles
- 3-4 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp fine salt (adjust to taste)
- A little seaweed flakes (or crumbled seasoned seaweed)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
1. Drain the tuna: Open the can of tuna and drain all the oil thoroughly using a sieve. Removing as much oil as possible will prevent the rice balls from tasting greasy and ensure a clean flavor.
Step 2
2. Chop the vegetables: Finely mince the onion to get 4 tablespoons. Similarly, finely chop the pickles to get 2 tablespoons, and finely mince the pickled radish to get 3 tablespoons. The finer you chop the vegetables, the better they will mix and the more pleasant the texture will be.
Step 3
3. Make the filling: In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped onion, chopped pickles, and chopped pickled radish. Add 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise and mix everything well until evenly combined. If the filling seems too dry, add another tablespoon of mayonnaise for a creamier consistency.
Step 4
4. Season the rice: Place 2 bowls of warm cooked rice in another bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds, and about 1/2 tablespoon of fine salt. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasonings. It’s best to start with slightly less than 1/2 tablespoon of salt, taste, and then add more if needed.
Step 5
5. Form and finish the rice balls: All the preparations are complete! Now it’s time to shape the rice balls. Take a portion of the seasoned rice, flatten it thinly in your palm, place a spoonful of the tuna mayo filling in the center, and carefully roll it into a round ball. Once shaped, roll the rice balls evenly in the seaweed flakes. Your delicious Tuna Mayo Rice Balls are ready! If you don’t have seaweed flakes, you can use finely crumbled seasoned seaweed, or simply omit them for a different taste.
