We’ll start with boiling the chickpeas.
Hummus Ingredients (Measurements: Tablespoons, Paper Cups)- 140g boiled chickpeas
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp tahini (sesame paste)
- 1 Tbsp mustard sauce (optional)
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Chickpea Boiling Ingredients- 1 Tbsp salt
- 1 Tbsp salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the chickpeas thoroughly under running water multiple times. The cooking time for chickpeas can vary depending on how long you soak them, so the longer, the better. If you soak them for over 8 hours, boil them for about 20 minutes. If soaked for 4 hours or more, boil for 30 minutes.
Step 2
I soaked the chickpeas for over 8 hours. Add enough water to generously cover the soaked chickpeas, along with 1 tablespoon of salt, and bring to a boil over high heat. It’s best to use about twice the amount of water as chickpeas.
Step 3
As the water starts to boil, foam will appear. Skim off this foam for a cleaner tasting hummus.
Step 4
After removing the foam, reduce the heat to medium and continue to boil for about 20 minutes. It’s important to boil them until they are tender.
Step 5
Once the chickpeas are cooked, immediately rinse them under cold water to cool them down. Then, drain them thoroughly in a colander. Excess water can make the hummus too runny.
Step 6
Now it’s time to add the star ingredient, the boiled chickpeas, to your blender. Place the cooked chickpeas into the blender. It’s that easy!
Step 7
Pour 700ml of the water used to boil the chickpeas into the blender. The amount of water should be about half the volume of the chickpeas, but you can adjust it to achieve your desired consistency.
Step 8
Next, add the ingredients that will enhance the flavor of the hummus. Add 1 tablespoon of tahini, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of aromatic olive oil.
Step 9
Add 1 tablespoon of mustard sauce for an extra flavor boost. Mustard sauce also helps give the hummus a beautiful yellow hue, but you can omit it if you don’t have it. Finally, add a pinch of salt and about 20 grinds of black pepper. Adjust the pepper to your preference.
Step 10
Now, add all the ingredients to the blender and process until smooth. If the chickpeas are difficult to blend, gradually add a little more water while checking the consistency until you reach your desired texture. Ensure it’s blended without any lumps.
Step 11
With the power of your blender, whiz, whiz! Simply blend all the ingredients until smooth, and your delicious homemade hummus is ready in no time! Isn’t it easy and simple?
