Main Ingredients- Grapefruit
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing your grapefruit. To ensure the peel is clean and free of pesticides or residue, wash it thoroughly using baking soda and vinegar. This initial wash is crucial for a clean final product.
Step 2
Next, use coarse salt to gently scrub the grapefruit peel. This method helps to remove any remaining impurities and leaves the skin remarkably clean.
Step 3
After the baking soda and salt scrub, rinse the grapefruit thoroughly under running water. Make sure to wash away any traces of the cleaning agents.
Step 4
Trim off the top and bottom ends of the clean grapefruit. Then, make vertical cuts (about 4 to 6) into the peel, going about halfway down the fruit. This scoring makes peeling much easier.
Step 5
Carefully peel the grapefruit along the score lines. Gently separate the grapefruit segments, and then extract the pulp from the membranes. Try to remove as much of the bitter white pith as possible for a smoother taste.
Step 6
In a bowl, combine the grapefruit pulp with an equal amount of sugar (a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume). Gently mix them together until the grapefruit is well coated with sugar. You can substitute honey or corn syrup for sugar if preferred.
Step 7
Transfer the sugared grapefruit mixture into a clean, sterilized glass jar or an airtight container. Seal the lid tightly to prevent air exposure and store it in the refrigerator. Your delicious grapefruit marmalade is ready! For the best flavor, let it mature for 2-3 days before enjoying.
