Homemade Healthy Grape Jam
[Solo Cooking] Homemade Healthy Grape Jam: Making Sweet and Sour Grape Jam
I bought three bunches of grapes towards the end of summer, but only ate one. The remaining three were becoming a nuisance in the fridge, so I decided to turn them into jam! Enjoy this homemade, healthy jam!
Ingredients- 3 bunches of fresh grapes
Sweetener- Sugar (using a small ladle): 3 ladles (adjust according to the sweetness of the grapes)
- Sugar (using a small ladle): 3 ladles (adjust according to the sweetness of the grapes)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, separate the grapes into individual berries and wash them thoroughly. Soak the grapes in a baking soda solution, gently rub them, and then rinse multiple times under running water to remove any residue. Discard any wilted or spoiled grapes and use only fresh ones for the best jam.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to remove the seeds from the grapes. This step takes a bit of time, but let’s meticulously remove each seed while imagining our family enjoying this healthy and delicious jam. Slice the grapes in half and carefully pick out the seeds, which can range from one to four per grape.
Step 3
After deseeding three bunches of grapes, I ended up with quite a pile of seeds. This step is crucial for a pleasant, seedless jam experience.
Step 4
Place the seedless grapes, skins and all, into a blender and process until smooth. The skins are rich in nutrients, so blending them in makes for an even healthier and tastier jam.
Step 5
The color of the blended grape puree is wonderfully vibrant and beautiful! This deep purple hue is quite appetizing.
Step 6
Transfer the smooth grape puree to a pot and begin cooking over medium heat. I tasted it briefly before it boiled and noticed a strong, tart grape flavor. If you prefer, you could cool this down and enjoy it as delicious grape juice!
Step 7
Now, it’s time to add sugar to adjust the sweetness. I initially added 2 small ladles and tasted it, but it was still quite tart. So, I added another ladle, bringing the total to three. Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar based on the grapes’ sweetness and your personal preference.
Step 8
Stir well to dissolve the sugar and continue cooking until the jam thickens considerably. Cooking for about 30 minutes or more will achieve the desired jam consistency. Remember to stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Step 9
Once the jam has reduced in volume and reached your desired thickness, your delicious grape jam is ready! It’s done when it slowly drips off the spoon.
Step 10
Transfer the finished grape jam into sterilized glass jars. I had to use several small jars as I didn’t have a large one. I set aside a small portion for immediate consumption. Once the jam cools completely, store it in the refrigerator.
Step 11
I spread a generous amount of the homemade grape jam on warm toast, and it’s absolutely delicious! The perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors is delightful. It’s not a ‘rice thief’ but a ‘toast thief’ – you’ll find yourself reaching for more!
Step 12
Enjoying it with a glass of milk makes for the perfect snack. Why not try making your own healthy homemade grape jam with seasonal grapes!
