Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables that will add flavor and texture to your Mongolian Beef. Feel free to use any vegetables you have on hand, such as bell peppers, onions, broccoli, and eggplant. Chop them into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 cm in size. For broccoli, separate it into florets and briefly blanching it in boiling water will make it more tender and cook faster.
Step 2
Sirloin is ideal for a tender texture, but any cut of beef you have will work. I used sirloin and cut it into large, roughly 2 cm cubes. For the marinade, combine 1 tsp soy sauce, minced garlic, a pinch of black pepper, and optional ginger powder and cooking wine. Gently mix this with the beef and let it marinate for about 10 minutes. This step helps to remove any gamey odor and enhance the flavor.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to stir-fry. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onions and minced garlic, and sauté slowly until fragrant, creating an aromatic green onion oil. Cook until the green onions turn golden brown and release a sweet aroma.
Step 4
Add the marinated beef to the fragrant oil in the pan and stir-fry quickly over high heat. Once the beef is browned on the outside and partially cooked, add all the prepared vegetables (onion, carrot, bell peppers, eggplant) and stir-fry together. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender.
Step 5
When the beef and vegetables are almost cooked through, add 4 tsp of oyster sauce and a pinch of black pepper to season. If you prefer a sweeter taste, add 1 tsp of sugar or plum extract. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until all ingredients are well combined. Your delicious Mongolian Beef is almost ready!
Step 6
Voila! Your homemade Mongolian Beef is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it over a bowl of freshly steamed rice for a delightful meal, or pair it with a cold beer for an excellent appetizer. The combination of crisp vegetables and tender beef is reminiscent of a chop steak. Just before turning off the heat, add a few drops of sesame oil for an extra nutty aroma. Plate it up beautifully and savor your delicious creation!
