Ingredients
  • 2 cups roasted peanuts (skin-on is fine too)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 2 cups of roasted peanuts. If you are using store-bought roasted peanuts, it’s a good idea to rinse them to remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated during transportation and storage.

Step 2

Do not soak the peanuts in water for a long time. Instead, place them in a colander and rinse them lightly under running water about twice. Even though they are roasted, peanuts go through several processes like shelling and packaging, so it’s important to wash off dust and residue. Don’t worry about using skin-on peanuts, as they are rich in nutrients.

Step 3

After rinsing, place the roasted peanuts in a dry pan and lightly toast them to remove any moisture. Since they are already roasted, you don’t need to cook them for long; just dry them out.

Step 4

Transfer the dried roasted peanuts into a food processor.

Step 5

Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. While salt is the basic seasoning, you can add a little sugar or honey if you prefer a sweeter taste.

Step 6

Close the lid of the food processor and process for about 1 to 2 minutes initially.

Step 7

After the first 1-2 minutes, you will still see coarse peanut particles. We will continue to process them further.

Step 8

Process for another 1 to 2 minutes. You’ll notice the particles have become finer.

Step 9

Process for a third 1 to 2 minutes. Around this stage, the natural oils from the peanuts will start to release, giving it a moist texture. Use a spoon to scrape down any peanut butter clinging to the sides of the processor and return it to the mixture.

Step 10

As more oils are released during the fourth processing, the mixture may start to clump. If you can still feel peanut particles, scrape them down with a spoon and process again.

Step 11

After processing for the fifth time, the peanut particles will be much smaller, and the mixture will start to bind together well. At this point, you might wonder if it’s failing or if you need to add oil. It might even seem like the processor is struggling to turn. However, it’s important to be patient and keep processing!

Step 12

This is what it looks like after the sixth processing. It’s beginning to resemble peanut butter.

Step 13

In between processing cycles, scrape down the sides and bottom of the processor thoroughly with a spoon, pushing the mixture towards the center, and then process again. Repeating this step helps achieve a smoother and more consistent peanut butter.

Step 14

This is the consistency after the seventh processing. From this point on, you can adjust the total processing time based on your desired texture. I processed it one more time for a smoother consistency.

Step 15

The final smoothness of your peanut butter can be adjusted by controlling the total time spent processing, according to your personal preference.

Step 16

And there you have it – delicious, fresh homemade peanut butter!
